The
convict-built country manor, Stanton, was built in 1817. It is
situated on one of Tasmania's first land grant sites
comprising 16 acres of pasture and orchards at Magra, in the
heart of the historic and beautiful Derwent Valley. While
surrounded by idyllic countryside including mountains, rivers,
pasture and orchards, the property is easily accessed and only
a short 5 minutes from New Norfolk and 35 minutes from Hobart.
By dint of its 190 years, Stanton has many
stories, the most dramatic being the day in 1843 when
bushranger Martin Cash and friends arrived, held 16 people at
gunpoint in the drawing room, relieved the house of its
valuables, charmed the ladies present, and galloped off into
the hills behind the house, where his hideout, 'Cash's Cave'
exists to this day.
Stanton offers 3 bedrooms, each with their
own bathroom (2 doubles & 1 twin room). The living room,
dining room, extensive library, sun room, verandahs, heated
spa house, barbeque, gardens and orchards are all available to
house guests. For bikers, we are set 100 metres off the road,
with a 3 bay brick garage out of sight of passing traffic, and
plenty of room for trailers/vans etc..
Our nightly rates are between $140-$150 per
double, and $90-$100 per single, with discounts available for
longer stays.
The normal comforts of home are all here -
electric heating, tea and coffee making, bar fridge, electric
blanket, hair dryer, television, DVD, stereo, but also the
things you go on holidays for - beautiful rooms filled with
antique furniture, open fires, fresh flowers, gourmet
breakfast and all the time in the world to enjoy the pervading
peace and tranquility of a time past (without the
bushrangers!) We look forward to sharing our home with
you...............Helen & Mark McDiarmid
