The Manse Bed & Breakfast The Manse was built in 1912 as a
home for the Methodist ministers of Port Carling. Examining
the carefully-rendered mahogany and maple detailing and the
efficient use of space inside, we suspect that someone in boat
building was somehow involved in the construction of this
handsome three-story red brick house, though we've not been
able to confirm this. Do take the time to look at the
basement, which is full height and made of wonderful field
stone. We are centrally located on 12 Bailey Street, a
residential street in the beautiful resort town of Port
Carling, in the heart of the Muskokas.
The Manse is just a few minutes walk from a
park with a beach, swimming area, bathrooms and a public boat
launch ramp on Lake Muskoka's Indian River, and a five minute
walk to downtown shops. Across the street is the town
community centre, home to the annual Muskoka Festival of
Music, which spans three mid-summer weeks, and we are right
around the corner from the new Norma and Miller Alloway
Muskoka Lakes Library.
The Manse has a serene front porch with
swing and lounge chairs. Inside is a comfortable living room
and dining room, and on the second and third floors are three
suites, each with its own en suite bathroom and sitting area.
Each suite is named in honour of a United Church minister who
lived here with his or her family.
Meals
We take pride in our breakfast, and offer a hot choice as well
as a breakfast sweet and fresh seasonal and local fruits which
rotate seasonally.
Our coffee comes from a local roastery in Huntsville called
Muskoka Roastery Coffee. Excellent coffee with many flavors
available, so if you are a fan of flavored coffee, let us know
and we will brew a pot for you. It is also available for sale
in the dining room.
Granola and muesli cereal are homemade by Linda.
Breakfast is served from 8:30 until 10:00. Arrangements can be
made if an early meal is required.
We can also bring a breakfast picnic to your room at no
charge. The basket includes juice, coffee or tea, fruit and a
breakfast sweet. Breakfast in bed -- indulge yourself with a
full hot breakfast delivered to your room for $10.00 per
person.
Dietary needs or just a breakfast favorite -- give us some
notice and we will try to accommodate you.
