Your hosts - the Monk family (Winston and
Bernard, along with their mother and late father "Ham") have
been in the hotel business at Paroa for over 53 years.
Our unique hotel (built of stone) offers a
licensed restaurant, choice of two bars and a bottle store. We
also provide superb accommodation in our 11 well-appointed,
modern (recently refurbished) motel units.
Paroa Hotel/Motel is located on the main
highway just 8km south of Greymouth and we are just minutes
away from Shantytown, one of the largest and most popular
tourist attractions in the South Island. Set in relaxing
garden surroundings, we are only a 2 minute stroll from an
unspoilt beach. From the beach, Mount Cook can be seen rising
out of the sea and our breathtaking sunsets have to be seen to
be believed.
The West Coast is world renown for scenic
attractions which include Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, unique
pancake rocks and blowholes of Punakaiki, majestic snow-capped
Southern Alps mountain range, rugged Tasman Sea coastline,
crystal clear rivers and lakes (well stocked with game fish),
and lush green rainforests.

Accommodation on the scenic West Coast of the South Island.
Our Motel comprises of 13 units. 2 x 2
Bedroom Apartments upstairs (sleep up to 6) 2 x 1 Bedroom
Apartments downstairs (sleep 3-4) 9 x Studio's Queen and
Twin.
All units have Kitchens and Ensuites.
Cooked and Continental Breakfasts available and taken to
your room.
We have excellent off street parking and
can lock up to 8 Motorcycles in Garage.
A great Tourist run is to travel to
Stillwater then take the Scenic Route past Lake Brunner
through to Jacksons Hotel on Highway 73 then back through
Kumara Junction to Greymouth. Approx 1 1/2 hours driving
time.

 We
are a small, friendly camp just 11 kms
north of Greymouth on the Coast Road to
Westport. All facilities are provided
including kitchen, showers, toilets,
laundry, dining and lounge area, and a
variety of outside attractions i.e.
stone built, wood-fired barbeques and
open fireplace, an above ground swimming
pool, badminton, volleyball, swingball.
Sea and beach are literally a stone's
throw away, though the sites are
protected from weather by native bush.
Beach has only safe swimming in region,
and is popular with stone collectors,
pub which serves meals is along beach.
Shops for supplies are 3 kms away.
Accommodation - tent and powered sites,
cabins and on-site caravans. Units are
not self-contained but have tv and
fridges, with crockery, cutlery,
heaters, electric jugs.

We have 12 units. all units are spacious with
microwaves,cooking facilities, tv,hair driers,ironing
facilities all units have super king or queen beds except
one 1 bedroom unit which has 2 double beds.our 6 studio
have ensuites, 2 chub chairs & table & chairs our 3 one
bedroom units can sleep upto 4 persons and have
ensuites.plus folddown sofa & arm chairs our 3 family
units can sleep from 4 to 6 people have 2 bedrooms plus
seperate lounge & ensuites. 6 units have spa baths

Shantytown. Shantytown is a historic village with a steam
train, gold panning, memorabilia etc...
Forty minutes away north is the Punikaiki
Pancake rocks with blowhole, high tide is the best time to
view. Two to three hours south is the glaciers, Fox and Franz
Joseph, and one of the fewer ones in the world that are still
advancing. There are many native bush walks and scenic drives
to lakes near by.
